THE BRIEF:
Create a venue for live music during the day and programme and produce a live audiovisual show suitable for a diverse audience of people of all ages over two evenings.
DESCRIPTION:
Saturday daytime: 'Indian Summer' brought together artists performing many different styles of music from the sub-continent. Ancient Dhrupad music, sublime songs of light, Indian classical music fused with modern beats, authentic Ragas and the very best of international Quawwali acts.
Artists included: ER Janardhan (Chennai based saxophonist), Threebee (Bollywood and Bangra dance company), Unnati Dasgupta and Spiritual Junction (A blend of Classical Indian music and contemporary Hindi and Benbali folk styles), Rafaqat Ali Khan (Cousin of the great Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan who draws upon Sufi, classical and pop music to create a powerful vocal style), Rajesh Chouhan's 'Bollywood Style' (International Bollywood dance troupe), Stereo Nation (Punjabi Folk, Hindi and English fused with Western pop) and resident DJ Nelson Dilation (AKA Le Vagabond Boogaloo).
Sunday daytime: 'Music from New Europe' showcased a fantastic blend of Eastern European music that spanned Slovakian folk, Polish Highlander bands, Transylvanian and Balkan instrumentals and Welsh and Estonian collaborations; together with homegrown acts such as the ten piece brass Gypsy band Orkestra Del Sol.
Artists included: Slid, Orchestra Del Sol, Katina Kangaris, Karpaty, Waking Vision, Tatry, Mukka and DJ Spindrift (AKA Le Vagabond Boogaloo).
Evening Performances: GaiaNova produced two nights of their live 'Pentavision' surround video experience, including performances by VJ Sorted, Mark Headspace (VJamm Allstars), Juxta (ZenTV and Ninja Tune), Addictive TV, AVJs, Red Dog and VJ Anyone.
