THE BRIEF:
To provide Shambala with the GT3-18 Gaiaspace Dome for its dance stage and to produce a selection of art installations concieved by artnership to transform the forest into a magical place for the Festival's night-time entertainment.
DESCRIPTION:
GaiaNova Productions worked alongside Artnership to deliver a stunning blend of moving image, sculpture, lights and physical theatre all rolled into one for this year's Shambala arts trail. The backdrop for this is a beautiful wooded glade called the Wilderness.
The centre-piece involved the collaborative work of 7 different artists and consisted of a 13m long truss being suspended over 10 metres high within the forest canopy. A 12m by 7m cone was then suspended beneath it. This sculpture was bathed in video projections and light. The piece set the scene for aerial performance artists to perform inside and out of the cone providing a mesmerizing display. A combination of performance art, scuplture, projections and lighting was visible directly and through multiple shadows cast from within the coned sculpture itself. The centre-piece in the woods was surrounded by three further art pieces and additional seating and lighting. All of this could be experienced by several thousand people at once.
GaiaNova also provided the 18m Gaiaspace Structures GT3 series dome and a GaiaPod for the Festival's dance tent.
